Alcohol, marijuana and cigarettes are commonly abused substances. Yet, randomised controlled trials specifically designed to assist patients to reduce / abstain from alcohol / other substances are scarce. We conducted and reported the very first opportunistic trial to assist patients presenting to Cumberland Hospital to manage their substance use and associated problems. Funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), our work has now extended to community mental health settings.
In addition, we have also developed a brief screener (MYAMI screener) to identify major mental health problems in Drug and Alcohol settings, and General Practice.
